What is WatchD.O.G.S.?

Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads Of Great Students) is the safe school initiative of the National Center for Fathering. It was founded by Jim Moore,a father who took action in response to a 1998 middle school shooting in Jonesboro, AR. Moore wanted to help prevent violence from occurring at his children’s school or any school. Today, more than 890 schools in 33 states participate in WATCH D.O.G.S.®. including Pisgah.

How does WATCH D.O.G.S.® work?

Fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures volunteer at least one day all day at their child’s/student’s school each school year. Watch D.O.G.S. volunteers perform a variety of services during their volunteer day. They serve in many capacities which include monitoring the school entrance, assisting with unloading and loading of buses and cars, helping in the lunch room, the classroom or anywhere needed during the day.

WatchDog Dad in Action

Thank you to all our WatchDog Dads who help out in the classroom, lunchroom, playground -- everywhere -- at the Lower School! Their presence is greatly appreciated by the students and faculty.

Pictured at right is John Messinger, just one of our many WatchDog Dads, assisting with a science lesson. Way to go WatchDog Dads!

Letter from a WatchDog Dad

Thank you for the opportunity. It was quite a great experience I believe all parents should experience.

What I have observed today was very encouraging and reassuring for a parent whose child is under your care. You guys truly are a bunch of child focus and dedicated professional.

I have truly experienced Pisgah today!

This letter was sent from one of our many WatchDog Dads. Thank you to him, to the WatchDog Dads pictured, and to the many others who help out in our classrooms, on our playgrounds, cafeteria, and more! Learn more about WatchDogs.
