Boys Relay Team Finishes 7th

The Pisgah boy's 4x400 meter relay team finished seventh on Saturday at the GHSA championships. The team of Max Aden, Sam Reilly, Carson Howe and Foster Gailey finished with a time of 3:32.07, missing 4th place by less than a second.

Grant Hicks just missed qualifying for the final in the 800 meters by .38 of a second. He finished with a time of 2:01.98.

Girl’s Relay Team Takes Third at GHSA Championships

The Mount Pisgah girl’s 4x400 meter relay team finished third on Saturday in the GHSA championships in Albany. The team of Sarah-Scott Lewis, Alexa Hudgins, Alaina Grant and Natalie Wertymer set a personal record of 4:09.85.

Lewis, a sophomore, also finished fifth in the 800 meters with a school record time of 2:23, and seventh in the 400 (1:00.46). Hudgins, also a sophomore, finished eighth in the 800 meters (2:28).

Pisgah tallied 13 points finishing 16th overall.

Girl's Runners Advance into State Finals

The Pisgah girls track runners remained hot on Thursday in the preliminary round of the state meet in Albany, with all runners qualifying for Saturday's final. The 4x400 meter relay team of Natalie Wertymer, Alexa Hudgins, Alaina Grant and Sarah-Scott Lewis (pictured on right with coach Susan Reilly) set a new school record with their time of 4:12.90. It was the third fastest time of the day and just a few seconds off the best time (4:10).

Lewis qualified for the finals of the 400 meters with a time of 59.92 (5th best on the day) and the 800 meters (2:26, 4th best on the day). She will be joined in the 800 meter finals by Hudgins who posted a time of 2:28.

Pisgah Track Runners Advance to State

It was a great day for Pisgah runners at this weekends sectional meet, as all of the Patriots who participated advanced to the 2012 Class A state meet.

Sarah-Scott Lewis had the best day qualifying in the 400 meters, 800 meters and as a part of the 4x400 meter relay team. Lewis won her 400m heat, finished fourth overall in the 800m. Lewis was joined by Alexa Hudgins, Alaina Grant and Natalie Wertymer to finish third in the 4x400m.

Hudgins also qualified for the state meet in the 800 meters, finishing third overall.

For the boys, Grant Hicks finished sixth and qualified for the state meet in the 800 meters. The boys 4x400 meter relay team of Sam Reilly, Carson Howe, Max Aden and Foster Gailey finished with a time of 3:32, qualifying them for the state meet as well.

The girsl GHSA meet will be held May 3-5 in Albany, while the boys event will take place May 10-12 in Jefferson.

Varsity Track Runners to Compete at Sectional Meet

The varsity track team had both the boys and girls 4x400 meter relay teams, as well as individuals Sarah-Scott Lewis (400m and 800m), Alexa Hudgins (800m) and Grant Hicks (800m) qualify for the Sectional meet on Saturday at Landmark Christian.

The girls relay team of Hudgins, Alaina Grant, Natalie Wertymer and Lewis finished second at the Region meet. The boys relay team of Foster Gailey, Carson Howe, Sam Reilly, Max Aden and John O’Connor finished fourth at the Region meet.

Individually, Lewis finished second in the 800m and fourth in the 400m. Hudgins and Hicks each finished fourth in their events at the Region meet.

Distance Runners Dominate at Landmark

The distance runners stood out for the Pisgah track teams at the Landmark Invitational on Saturday. Katie Strawinski set schools records in  both the 1600m run (5:57.99) and in the 3200m run (12:58.17). Sam Reilly also won the 1600 and 3200 meter runs for the boys.

For the sprinters Natalie Wertymer set a school record in the 100 meter hurdles (18.83).

Overall the boys team finished 2nd in the event, beating Our Lady of Mercy, Landmark, Lithia Springs, North Cobb Christian and Greenforest.

Varsity Track Opens at Galloway Invitational

The boys and girls varsity track team opened their season this week at the Galloway Invitational. On the boys side Max Aden won the 200 meters, Foster Gailey won the 400 meters and the team of Aden, Foster, John O'Connor and Austin Harper won the 4x100 relay.

For the girls, Ally Smith won the 100 meters, Alaina Grant won the 100 and 300 meter hurdles and Natalie Wertymer, Morgan Walters, Paige Church and Sarah-Scott Lewis won the 4x100 relay.

Senior Bryant Laursen qualified for the GHSA state track and field meet in the shot put. Laursen finished second in the Region with a school record throw of 47’3”.
