The 2012 Pisgah boys varsity tennis team feels they ended the 2011 season with some unfinished business. After finishing second to eventual state champion Wesleyan in sub-region play, they were eliminated in the first round of the Region tournament when two of the five matches were lost with injury retirements. Having been ranked in the top 10 in the state in Class A for most of the year, the season ended unexpectedly with a 9-3 record.

The 2012 boys return six of the seven 2011 starters. In addition, two seniors and a junior who spent the past year concentrating on tournament tennis are expected to join the squad, providing even more experience to the roster. The added depth will be needed this spring, since the schedule has been beefed up. In addition to playing in the strongest Region in Georgia, the Patriots have added Class AA state runners-up Blessed Trinity as well as two Class AAAAA schools, Alpharetta HS and Milton HS, to the schedule.

Head Coach Ken Bomar said he expects this spring’s team to be quite strong throughout the lineup. “Led by sophomore Sam Edwards, we should have a number of players who can compete at both singles and doubles. They saw what the girls team was able to accomplish last year and they want to experience that same level of success. They know what it will take to achieve their goals.”

Pisgah tennis tryouts will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 16, with the first match Feb. 9 against Providence Christian Academy. For more information on the Pisgah tennis program contact Coach Bomar at kbomar@mountpisgahschool.org

2011 Season Review

The Mount Pisgah boy’s tennis team finished the 2011 season with a 9-3 overall record. They finished in second place in Region 5E-A. The Patriots were ranked in the top 10 in Class A for most of the season, but dropped out in the final poll. The teams season ended in disappointing fashion, losing a tough opening round match in the Region tournament against Atlanta International. The Patriots lost 3-2 after singles players Jonathan Villwock and Isaac Hram retired with injuries.
