Visual Arts

Kindergarten through fifth grade students have Art class each week with Ms. June Pettway, our Art Education Specialist. The curriculum is based on the SRA series, Art Connections. The program integrates the four dimensions of Art into every age-appropriate lesson: art history and culture, aesthetic perception, art production and art criticism. Students encounter a broad range of art media for both two-dimensional and three-dimensional self-expression.

Mrs. Susan Reilly (Middle School) and Mrs. Libby Geiselmayr (Upper School) lead Pisgah’s outstanding visual arts program.

General classes are available in Middle School, with additional opportunities for students who have a passion in this area. Upper School training occurs in all the various media, including a comprehensive AP course for highly advanced and motivated students. There are a number of gallery-like experiences during the year, and it culminates with the National Art Honor Society Exhibit – an evening event that is one of the highlights of the school year at Pisgah.

LS and US Partners

Pisgah Second graders lent their helping hands, creativity, and collection of cartons to this year's Gingerbread Project! This is one of the US Visual Arts’ biggest undertakings of the year. Students have five days to complete a contribution to their team’s village using only milk cartons, graham crackers, candy and icing.  This project will be on display in the foyer of H building through Wednesday, December 14th.

NAHS Induction

Congratulations to this year's inductees in the National Art Honor Society! The National Art Honor Society is designed specifically for high school students in grades 9-12. In 1978, the National Art Education Association began the National Art Honor Society program specifically for high school students, for the purpose of inspiring and recognizing those students who have shown an outstanding ability in art. The NAHS strives to aid members in working toward the attainment of the highest standards in art areas, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.
